oh, say can you see

This poignant and original "artist book" by American artist Jack Martinelli explores themes of the journey and personal development. Original multimedia paintings in the book, mostly done in acrylic with collage on illustration board, are accompanied by an intriguing free-form poem. This is Martinelli's version of "receptive aesthetics", where the viewer may link spontaneous reactions and complete the artist's work process.
Jack Martinelli develops art from his personal experiences. His themes concern aesthetics, psychological issues and humor. Working through series of drawings, he produces paintings, works on paper, collages, Fluxus art, and artist book works with original text. Book art collections include the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, the Museum of Modern Art, New York City, The Institute for Book Arts, University of Alabama, Tuscalloosa, AL and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art Educational Archives, Santa Barbara, CA.
